Steve's Injuries

Steve's injuries from the accident include at least the following:
 
 
Right Shoulder Area:
  • Missing pectoral muscle
  • Missing two main nerves to the arm
  • Large portion of the main artery to the arm was torn away
  • Clavical (collar bone) was torn away
  • Most of the skin in the area was lost
  • Large, open gash in the upper shoulder
  • Other bone and tissue damage

 

 

Right Arm:

  • Broken bones between the elbow and shoulder
  • Open gash opposite the elbow
  • Due to swelling, his arm had to be surgically opened up to relieve the pressure
 
 
 
 
 
 
Other Inuries:
  • Fractured cheek bone under the right eye
  • Fractured vertebrae in lower neck
  • Torn ligaments in the left knee
  • Stitches on the right foot
  • Various bruises, scratches, and lacerations
 
 
Surgeries (so far):
  • Replaced torn away artery with a synthetic one to get blood flowing to his arm again
  • Cut away all dead or damaged tissue, skin, and muscle
  • Repaired clavical and other bone-related issues
  • Replaced temporary synthetic artery with a perminent one taken from his leg
  • Attempted to repair remaining three nerves to his arm
  • Took skin graphs from his leg to cover remaining open wounds in his right shoulder and arm
 
 
 
Physical and Occupational Therapy:
  • Steve will require extensive physical and occupational therapy.
 
Future Operations:
  • We're told that Steve will need several more "reconstruction" operations over the next few years.
